Key Home Decor Categories Featured in Walmart Clearances

1. Accent Furniture & Seating

Walmart’s popular private brands, including Better Homes & Gardens and Mainstays, frequently see substantial markdowns on small-space accent furniture:

Accent & Swivel Chairs: Upholstered swivel armchairs, barrel chairs, and mid-century accent seating regularly drop by 30% to 50% during inventory sweeps.
Side Tables & Plant Stands: Wood-pedestal displays, metal nesting tables, and rustic farmhouse trays see steep cuts, often reduced down to single-digit or low double-digit price points.
Storage Benches & Ottoman Seats: Tufted storage ottomans and entryway shoe benches feature major cuts as stores clear out floor space.

2. Area Rugs & Floor Coverings

Rugs are among the highest-value categories during clearance waves, often marked down significantly online and in-store:

Machine-Washable Rugs: Vintage-floral, boho, and traditional distressed runner/area rugs feature price drops across common sizes ($9–$25 for 5'x7' and 9'x12' variations).
Shag & Plush Accent Rugs: Fluffy indoor carpets and kids' room play mats see discounts up to 50% off standard list prices.
Doormats & Runner Mats: Seasonal entrance mats and memory foam kitchen runners drop down to nominal clearance costs.

3. Textiles: Pillows, Throws & Bedding

Soft furnishings offer a fast, low-cost way to update a room's seasonal color palette:

Decorative Pillow Covers & Bolsters: Chenille, embroidered, and ruffled bolster pillows are frequently marked down to clear out previous seasonal patterns.
Fleece & Waffle Throw Blankets: Lightweight plush, jacquard, and 3D-striped fleece throws are marked down substantially during transition periods.
Comforter Sets: 3-piece yarn-dyed or floral comforter sets from Better Homes & Gardens drop into lower price brackets to clear space for new textile shipments.

4. Lighting & Wall Accents

Ambient Lighting: String curtain lights, dimmable solar patio lights, and LED accent lamps see deep rollbacks and clearance tags.
Mirrors & Framed Art: Canvas prints, wood-framed mirrors, and wall decals are regularly slashed to clear shelf space.

Insider Hacks for Shopping Walmart Decor Clearances

Understand the Price Tag Ending Trick: In-store clearance tags often reveal where an item sits in its markdown lifespan. Prices ending in \"5\" (e.g., $12.95) generally indicate an initial discount that may drop further. Prices ending in \"0\" or \"1\" (e.g., $7.00 or $5.01) typically signify the final floor price.
Scan In-Store via the Walmart App: Clearance tags on store shelves are not always updated promptly. Using the barcode scanner in the official Walmart mobile app while in the home department aisle often reveals deeper hidden markdowns before they are manually re-ticketed.
Know the Markdown Timing: Store-level clearance price updates commonly occur during the first five days of the month, with mid-week updates (especially overnight Tuesday into Wednesday) bringing fresh markdowns to the floor.
Compare In-Store vs. Online Clearance: Walmart online clearance items sometimes differ from local store inventory. Utilizing \"Free Store Pickup\" or Walmart+ shipping on online-only decor clearances helps avoid shipping fees on single items.

Essential Buyer Inspection Checklist

[ ] Verify Dimensions First: Measure floor and wall space prior to purchasing clearance rugs or furniture, as clearance returns can carry shorter windows.
[ ] Check Machine-Washability: For light-colored rugs or pillow covers, confirm whether materials are machine-washable or require spot-cleaning only.
[ ] Inspect Unboxed Floor Displays: If purchasing an open-box or display furniture piece in-store, check for structural frame stability and surface scratches.
[ ] Confirm Return Eligibility: Ensure the receipt confirms standard return eligibility, especially for items marked as final clearance or open-box floor stock.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why does Walmart mark down home decor items so heavily?

Walmart clears out home decor primarily to make room for incoming seasonal lines, inventory shifts, or brand packaging updates. Items are generally in brand-new condition.

Are clearance items purchased online at Walmart.com returnable?

Yes, most standard online clearance purchases follow Walmart’s standard return window (typically 90 days for most items), either by mail or by returning the item to a local brick-and-mortar store location.

How do Walmart \"Rollbacks\" differ from \"Clearance\" items?

A Rollback is a temporary promotional price drop on a regularly stocked item that will eventually return to its original price. A Clearance item is permanently marked down to exit store inventory entirely.
