Pella's product lineup spans nine distinct window and door lines, and the gap between the most affordable and most expensive options is enormous, before custom sizing even enters the picture. Understanding which product line and sizing approach fits your project matters considerably, since the difference between a standard-size window and a fully custom one can shift a project's total investment by thousands of dollars. This guide breaks down Pella's tiers, what triggers custom pricing, and how to plan a project realistically.

Pella's Product Lines, From Entry to Premium

Pella organizes its lineup around material and craftsmanship level, and the frame material largely determines where a given line sits on the investment spectrum.

250 Series (Vinyl) sits at the entry point, generally running $225 to $900 per window depending on size and options, according to a 2026 breakdown from Homedit. It's Pella's most budget-friendly line, with stronger frames than typical vinyl competitors but fewer customization options than the higher lines.

Encompass by Pella (Vinyl) is another accessible line, sold directly through Pella's site alongside Impervia and Lifestyle, and generally positioned similarly to 250 Series in terms of overall investment.

Impervia (Fiberglass) runs roughly $300 to $1,700 for the window unit alone, or $400 to $2,200 installed, according to HomeGuide's 2026 cost guide. Built from Pella's proprietary Duracast fiberglass, this line is engineered for durability and energy efficiency, and it's available in custom sizing, though some contractors note the fit and finish can be less forgiving than wood alternatives.

Lifestyle Series (Wood, Aluminum-Clad Exterior) generally matches Impervia's investment range, running $300 to $1,500 for the unit or $400 to $2,000 installed. It combines a wood interior with a low-maintenance aluminum-clad exterior, along with features like integrated blinds and smart home compatibility.

Architect Series (Aluminum-Clad Wood) steps up meaningfully, generally $1,200 to $3,000 or more installed, positioned as an upgrade from Pella's older Proline Series with a similar overall construction to Lifestyle but broader design flexibility.

Reserve (Wood and Aluminum-Clad Wood) sits at the very top of Pella's lineup, running $1,300 to $3,500 installed per window, according to a 2026 breakdown from Forshaws. Reserve is explicitly Pella's custom wood line, offered in both a Traditional and a Contemporary style, with Pella's own marketing noting that custom sizes, grille patterns, finishes, wood types, and glass options are all available.

What Actually Triggers \"Custom\" Pricing

This is the distinction that matters most for anyone trying to estimate a project's total investment. According to a 2026 guide from Cupcake Home Improvements, standard-size windows are manufactured in common, pre-set dimensions and are generally faster and less expensive to produce, while custom sizing means the window is built specifically to fit an opening that doesn't match Pella's standard size catalog, whether due to an unusual architectural opening, a historic home renovation, or a design-forward new build.

Custom sizing isn't limited to unusual dimensions alone. Custom-shaped windows, arched, round, or triangular designs, also fall into this category and generally run notably higher than standard rectangular windows because they require specialized manufacturing and installation. According to a 2026 breakdown from HomeBuddy, custom-shaped windows typically run $1,000 to $4,000 or more installed, a meaningfully wider and higher range than standard double-hung or sliding windows in the same product line.

Why Custom Sizing Costs More

A few factors consistently drive up the investment for custom sizing, regardless of which product line is chosen. Manufacturing a non-standard size means the window can't be pulled from a pre-built inventory run, so it's produced individually, generally extending both lead time and per-unit labor at the factory. According to Cupcake Home Improvements, Reserve line windows in particular carry longer lead times and higher per-unit charges specifically because of this individualized production process, though for projects where architectural accuracy genuinely matters, historic restorations or design-specific new construction, Reserve is often the only specification that actually delivers the intended result.

Installation complexity also rises with custom sizing. A standard-size replacement window fits into an existing opening with comparatively little structural work, while a custom size or shape may require framing adjustments, specialized flashing, or additional carpentry to properly integrate the new window into the wall system, all of which adds labor time beyond the window unit itself.

What a Whole-House Project Can Run

Scaling from a single window to a full house makes the tier differences much more visible. According to Forshaws' 2026 estimate for a 12-window project, Impervia runs roughly $4,800 to $26,400, Lifestyle Series runs $4,800 to $24,000, and Reserve runs $16,800 to $42,000. That's a difference of tens of thousands of dollars between the lower and upper tiers for the same number of openings, driven almost entirely by material, craftsmanship level, and how much custom work the specific project requires.

Real project examples reflect similarly wide swings. A 2026 review from Modernize cites 15 Impervia casement windows in Denver running $12,000 to $16,000 installed, while 18 Reserve Series wood windows in Boston ran $25,000 to $40,000 installed for a comparable window count, underscoring how heavily the product line selection alone shapes the total investment, independent of custom sizing decisions.

Doors Follow a Similar Pattern

While most available data centers on windows, Pella's patio and entry doors follow the same general structure: standard sizes and configurations across Impervia, Lifestyle, and Encompass lines carry the most accessible starting figures, while custom configurations, oversized openings, unique panel counts, or design-specific hardware and glass options, push doors toward the same kind of individualized manufacturing and higher per-unit charges seen with custom windows.

Factors That Shift the Final Number

Beyond the product line and custom-versus-standard decision, a handful of additional factors shape what a specific project ultimately runs. Replacement projects, where a new window fits into an existing opening, are generally more straightforward and less expensive than new construction installations that require building the opening from scratch. Grille patterns, specialty glass, hardware finishes, and color options all add incrementally to the base unit charge. And regional labor rates mean the same window line and configuration can run noticeably differently in, say, rural Ohio versus a major coastal metro area.

Getting an Accurate Estimate

Given how widely published ranges vary, getting a written, in-home estimate remains the only reliable way to know what a specific project will actually run. Pella offers direct online ordering and rate transparency for three lines specifically, Impervia, Lifestyle, and Encompass, while other lines, including Reserve and the 250 Series, are generally sold through third-party retailers or a Pella showroom, where rates vary by location and aren't published directly on Pella's own site. Anyone comparing quotes should confirm exactly which product line, sizing approach, and installation type (replacement versus new construction) each estimate reflects, since these three variables account for most of the swing between a low estimate and a high one.

FAQs

What's the main difference between standard and custom sizing?
Standard sizes are manufactured in pre-set dimensions and produced faster and at a lower charge, while custom sizing is built specifically for a non-standard opening or shape, generally extending lead time and raising the per-unit charge.

Which Pella line is the most budget-friendly?
The 250 Series vinyl line generally offers the most accessible starting figures, followed closely by Encompass by Pella.

Is Reserve always more expensive than Lifestyle?
Generally yes, since Reserve is Pella's dedicated custom wood line with more sizing, wood type, and finish flexibility than Lifestyle's more standardized wood-and-aluminum-clad construction.

Do custom-shaped windows always run more than custom-sized rectangular windows?
Custom shapes, arched, round, or triangular designs, typically run toward the higher end of the custom range due to specialized manufacturing, though the exact figure depends on the specific product line and size involved.

Can I get pricing for every Pella line directly from their website?
No, only Impervia, Lifestyle, and Encompass offer direct online rate transparency; other lines, including Reserve, are generally sold through third-party retailers or a showroom.

Conclusion

Choosing between custom and standard sizing with Pella comes down to whether an opening, shape, or design intent genuinely requires individualized manufacturing, since that decision alone can shift a project's total investment by thousands of dollars independent of which product line is selected. For straightforward replacement projects with standard openings, Impervia or Lifestyle in a standard size generally delivers the most accessible path, while custom Reserve windows make sense specifically for historic restorations or design-forward builds where architectural accuracy is the priority. Getting a written, in-home estimate that clearly specifies the product line, sizing approach, and installation type remains the most reliable way to plan an accurate budget before committing.
