A silver compact SUV with a slim, glowing light signature sits on a scenic overlook at golden hour. A couple stands nearby, looking out over a distant city skyline, mountains, and water. The scene suggests what the Honda CR-V has long represented: a practical, comfortable vehicle for daily life that is also ready for weekend escapes. This guide explains what the 2027 model year brings, how the trims differ, what to expect from the powertrains, and what to check before you visit a dealership.

The Big Picture: An Evolution, Not a Redesign

First, a note on expectations. Some websites published speculation about a dramatically redesigned 2027 CR-V, including new styling, a larger screen, and a plug-in hybrid. The independent owner site CRVGuide pushes back on those claims. Its summary says almost nothing changed for 2027, that the trim names and order remain the same, and that rumors about a bigger grille, a redesigned dashboard, a 15-inch screen, and a plug-in hybrid variant were wrong. If you see a headline promising a total overhaul, read the details before believing it.

The CR-V's current generation has been on sale since the 2023 model year, so 2027 sits late in that cycle. That is not a bad thing. Mature models often benefit from years of refinement, and the 2027 car adds meaningful technology.

What Is New for 2027

According to a dealership research page from Burleson Honda, the headline addition is Google built-in. It brings Google Assistant, Google Gemini, Google Maps, and Google Play into the infotainment system on the EX, EX-L, and all hybrid trims. The same page lists a few other details:

The Sport Touring Hybrid gains a five-mode drive selector, adding an Individual mode to the Econ, Normal, Sport, and Snow settings found on other hybrid trims.
The Sport Touring Hybrid pairs a 10.2-inch digital instrument cluster with a Bose 12-speaker premium audio system.
The TrailSport Hybrid continues with the Honda Trail Experience app, which works with Apple CarPlay and provides off-road route planning and trail data.

Because different retailers describe model-year changes differently, and some features may carry over from the previous year, confirm each detail with a dealer or Honda's official materials before you decide.

The Trim Lineup

The 2027 CR-V comes in two broad families: gasoline-powered trims and hybrid trims. The lineup order, as listed by CRVGuide, runs LX, EX, EX-L, Sport Hybrid, TrailSport Hybrid, Sport-L Hybrid, and Sport Touring Hybrid.

LX, EX, and EX-L (gasoline). These use a 1.5-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine producing 190 horsepower, paired with a continuously variable transmission. CRVGuide lists fuel economy at 28 mpg in the city and 33 mpg on the highway for the LX through EX-L trims.

Sport Hybrid. The entry point to the hybrid range, with the 204-horsepower two-motor hybrid system.

TrailSport Hybrid. Built on the Sport Hybrid's powertrain but tuned for light off-road use. Its distinguishing features include all-terrain tires, black roof rails, gloss-black exterior accents, and the Honda Trail Experience app. Hill Descent Control is listed on this trim and the Sport Touring Hybrid.

Sport-L Hybrid. A step up in comfort and equipment.

Sport Touring Hybrid. The top trim, with the most features, including the Bose audio system, the 10.2-inch digital cluster, the five-mode drive selector, and a hands-free power tailgate, which CRVGuide lists as exclusive to this trim.

The Hybrid Powertrain

The hybrid system is the highlight for many buyers. A dealership blog from Honda Van Nuys explains that the gas engine alone produces 145 horsepower, while the electric motor produces 181 horsepower and delivers 247 lb-ft of torque from a standstill up to 2,000 rpm. Honda channels that output through a direct-drive electronic CVT, which makes acceleration feel smooth and seamless instead of stepped. The combined system output is listed at 204 horsepower.

That electric torque is why hybrid CR-Vs feel responsive in city driving. Pulling away from a stoplight is quiet and quick, and the gas engine often switches on only when needed.

Real Time AWD is available on the CR-V Hybrid and is standard on some trims. For fuel economy, one dealership page lists the Sport-L Hybrid and Sport Touring Hybrid with all-wheel drive at 40 mpg city, 34 mpg highway, and 37 mpg combined. CRVGuide lists the Sport Hybrid at 43 city and 36 highway. Ratings vary by trim, drivetrain, and wheel size, so check the official EPA figures for the exact configuration you want.

Space and Practicality

Practicality is the CR-V's calling card. The Honda Van Nuys page lists:

36.3 cubic feet of cargo space behind the second row.
71.8 cubic feet with the rear seats folded flat.
Ground clearance from 7.8 inches with front-wheel drive to 8.2 inches with Real Time AWD.

That room handles groceries, strollers, sports equipment, and luggage for a road trip. The flat-folding rear seats are helpful for bulky items, and the generous rear-seat space makes the CR-V comfortable for adults, not just children.

Technology and Safety

Technology is where the 2027 model is strongest:

Touchscreen. A 9-inch touchscreen is standard on every hybrid trim, with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, according to the Honda Van Nuys page.
Google built-in. On EX, EX-L, and hybrid trims, it integrates voice assistance, navigation, and apps directly into the car.
Digital instrument cluster. Higher trims grow to a 10.2-inch display.
Audio. Upper trims use a larger speaker system, with the Sport Touring Hybrid getting the 12-speaker Bose setup.
Honda Sensing. The suite includes collision mitigation braking, road departure mitigation, and adaptive cruise control with low-speed follow.
Additional assists. One dealership page says the current-generation CR-V expanded Honda Sensing with Traffic Jam Assist and factory parking sensors across the lineup.

Safety ratings for the 2027 model year should be confirmed with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration and the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety once they publish results for this model year.

Driving Impressions

Owners and reviewers of this generation commonly describe the CR-V as comfortable, quiet, and predictable. The steering is light and accurate, the ride is composed on rough pavement, and the cabin is spacious. Hybrid versions feel the most polished, thanks to smooth power delivery and low noise at city speeds. Gas models are adequate and efficient for most drivers, though they lack the instant electric torque of the hybrid.

The TrailSport Hybrid is not a hardcore off-roader, but its tires, clearance, and drive-mode tuning give it extra confidence on gravel roads, snowy paths, and moderate trails.

Which Trim Fits Which Buyer

Commuters and city drivers often find the Sport Hybrid or Sport-L Hybrid ideal, since hybrids shine in stop-and-go traffic.
Families may prefer an EX-L or Sport-L Hybrid for comfort features such as a power tailgate and added equipment.
Outdoor enthusiasts should look closely at the TrailSport Hybrid for its tires, Hill Descent Control, and trail app.
Tech-focused buyers may enjoy the Sport Touring Hybrid, with the largest cluster, the premium audio system, and the most advanced drive-mode selector.
Drivers who want simplicity can consider LX, EX, or EX-L gas trims with the turbocharged engine.
